What Is Apprenticeship Program
The Virginia Department of Labor and Industry (DOLI) administers the programs for Virginia Occupational Safety and Health, Registered Apprenticeship, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety and Labor and Employment Law.
Advance your employment prospects by learning a trade or skill through participation in VA on-the-job training or apprenticeships. These programs typically involve entering into a training contract for a specific period of time with an employer or union. At the end of the training period, a job certification is issued or journeyman status achieved. Most Veterans receive a salary from the employer or union during training. As your skills increase, so may your salary. GI Bill payments are issued monthly after VA receives certification of hours worked from your employer or union.
State Approving Agency (GI Bill) The Virginia State Approving Agency is a member of the National Association of State Approving Agencies (NASAA). NASAA advocates for quality education and training programs for our nation’s veterans. Five states offer full lawyer apprenticeship programs, as follows: California, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and West Virginia. If you live in or near one of these states you may want to consider an apprenticeship program. In these states you can actually do your entire legal study under the supervision of a judge or lawyer. Post-9/11 GI Bill recipients. The payment rates are as follows:
- You will receive 100 percent of your applicable MHA during the first six months of training in these increments:
- 80 percent of your applicable MHA during the second six months of training
- 60 percent of your applicable MHA during the third six months of training
